Disney on Ice

last saturday {march 1st} we went to Disney on Ice.
{enough pictures mom! let's see the show...}
we brought grandma with us and had a great time.
i bought "cheap" tickets, which ended up being in the club level.  that doesn't mean much if your not at a hockey game, but we were dead center and had cushy seats. sounds like a win to me.

the show was called 'passport to adventure' and took you on a vacation tour of some of the Disney movies.  first stop, africa.

 {the lion king}
up next, and underwater adventure with
{The Little Mermaid}
a quick stop in Hawaii to visit
{Lilo & Stitch}
The entire second half of the show was {Peter Pan}
B loved the tic toc croc...

i'm pretty sure grandma & i loved the show as much as brody. i'm kinda a sucker for disney, and am a tiny bit jealous of the talent of the performers.  disney does everything well!
****************
we ended our day with lunch at lions choice, with grandma.
that meant ice cream for dessert.
eating ice cream cones takes talent...
we are still working on developing that skill, but practice makes perfect

Rain {freezing rain}, go away.

it is a rare occasion we are all home together. but yesterday thats just what we found.  and it was supposed to be mid 40's.  that is almost a heat wave after the negative and single digit temps we have been {barely} tolerating.  however, when we woke up we were welcomed by a downpour of freezing rain, and a thick sheet of ice. we scrapped our plans for any time outdoors, and took B bowling.

we went a few weeks back for a birthday party, and b loved it.  i wanted to take him again on a day where it wasn't as crowded and we weren't rushed for time.  and today was the winner.

we played two games, with brody beating me both times.
i'm pretty sure i was the one that needed the bumpers.
after bowling we spent a short time in the arcade.   car racing and a motorcycle riding. such boys.

however, we earned just enough tickets for a fancy pair of teeth!
what have you been doing to keep from going stir crazy in this winter weather?!

{a labor day ride}

today, we took advantage of the weather not being a million degrees!

i started off with a run, just to test the waters and see how my body responded to a run after almost 3 weeks off while i was sick. surprisingly, i felt pretty good. i ran 5 miles, averaging 9:45 min miles. a few times i even found myself running between 8:45-9:10 min miles. i could definitely tell that i have lost quite a bit of my endurance. i was pretty tired by about mile 3.5, but i pushed through the last few for a total of 5 miles in 49:13.

i met the rest of my little family at the trailhead, and we headed out for a bike ride.
we rode on the katy trail, and stopped halfway for lunch at the augusta brewery.  i had a yummy caprese salad (but failed to take a picture...). i was hoping for a pumpkin beer, but unfortunately it was still too early in the month. having lunch here is a nice little break in our ride, but i always have to remember not to eat so much that i don't want to make the rest of the ride back. haha.
we totaled 12 miles in about an hour and 10 minutes. it was a great way to spend our labor day.

did you get out and move?!

p.s. i'm linking up with ashley from the domestic wannabe for move it monday!

lets talk marathons...

for this weeks move it monday post, lets talk marathons...
or the lack thereof.

last winter, when i was training for the WDW marathon i swore there would be no more marathons.  ever.  three marathons was a nice round number... chicago, nike womens in san franscisco and walt disney world.  why should i run any more?  then, i got to disney and knew i needed to run the goofy challenge.  39.3 miles in two days?  i.want.that.medal!
 (two pics post 2013 disney marathon!)

so, i decided that a fall marathon was a must do for the fall.  the Mo' Cowbell is a local race that i have run for the last two years... this year is the first year they are offering a full marathon.  its cheap, its close and its flat.  sounds like a winner.
but... life got in the way.  i was up to running 12 miles for my long run and felt like i was already missing out on my family. with my longest training run planned for 22 miles, i just didn't have it in me.  i knew there was a reason i hadn't signed up yet... so now that we are 8 weeks away, i guess i had better sign up for the half marathon.
i'm still not sure where i stand with the whole goofy challenge.  but for now... a half marathon it is.

so now... here is my plan for my last few weeks of training.   i have always used hal higdon's training programs with great success.  and since i haven't been doing long runs consistently, i am planning on dropping back to the novice schedule.
i've been trying to get in 4 weekly runs, along with my 2 session of body pump each week. and since our weather has been so cooperative for august, i have been taking little man out with me.  i forgot how difficult running with the jog stroller is, but b is enjoying being out and about.  with him (and me) being sick over the last week, our runs have included a lot of walking, but i have made sure we still covered the scheduled distances.

here's hoping we can keep this up until race day, on october 6th!

mommy and brody date day

back in my 33 before 33 post, i mentioned that i wanted to have a monthly mommy and brody outing.  so, last week i asked brody what he wanted to do for our mommy & brody day.
his plans were very detailed...
first up. watching netflix on the ipad.
then, a walk ride around the block in his monster truck.
with a stop to watch the neighborhood construction crew
and pick some flowers for mommy.
we ran a few errands, including a stop at office max
for our actual outing, b requested a 'pizza picnic at the park'.
so a pizza picnic we had.
the park near our house has a nature classroom, where kids can use items found in nature to play, build and make music.  we spent quite a long time in the outdoor classroom.
b had so much fun, he wore himself out.
more updates to come... we have had lots of summertime adventures we need to catch you all up on!

{the fourth}... finally

i just realized today i had never actually published the draft post i had been working on from july 4th.
so, here it is. just a little delayed...
our fourth was laid back, but full of fun, family and food...
i started out the morning with a speedy 10K at the o'fallon firecracker 10K run, where i set my very own personal record.  afterwards, i met the family at the wentzville donut cafe for breakfast.  apparently, we were too hungry to have stopped and taken any pictures.  they were pretty busy, as they sat right on the parade route.
prior to meeting for donuts, we set up a spot on the parade route. we walked down and got settled into our spot after breakfast. here is the fam... looking less than thrilled that i am bombarding them with photos.
brody really enjoyed the parade this year, and we all really enjoyed the mild weather.  at last year's parade it was nearing 100+ degrees.  after an appropriate amount of candy eating, bead grabbing, whining and snack eating, we headed back to the house to get ready for a family bbq/birthday party.
the bbq included lots of food (again, no pictures), brody and daddy lighting fireworks, an a million snakes and snap pops with grandma.

after it got dark, we sat in the driveway, played with some sparklers and watched the neighbors firework display.  they always do a great job, but this years may be the best.one.yet.

hope you all had a great fourth!
